True Meaning of Christmas

September is still young in the Philippines, but the spirit of Christmas and the cooling Amihan air are already apparent. During the "ber-months," which are the months preceding December, such as September, October, and November, you are likely to see homes decked up with many glittery, glistening stars, garlands, and big Christmas trees. Christmas would not be without Santa hats, meaningful hanging balls around the tree, and dazzling LED lights strung from the balcony or wall.

The problem is that, even though we prepare an extravagant meal and provide pricey gifts, many of us are unaware of this significant occasion. Contrary to popular belief, this is not the time of year to give out bonuses, tips, gifts, toys, or chocolates. Instead, it's a time to be at peace, offer love, and take care of those around us.

As they say, "It is better to give than to receive"
First off, I completely agree with this quote based on my own experiences. My parents have planted in me the belief that giving is preferable since I was a small child, especially my mother. I always act like I can't sit still around the holidays because I can't wait to go shopping and buy things for the people I cherish, not for me. I was able to realize at that age that pricey presents are not always necessary and that what really counts is the love and care that goes into selecting the right present for that special someone. I enjoy wrapping gifts, and while I cover each one with a lovely, silky paper, I try to picture their possible reactions as I give them their tribute. Though I don't ask anything in return, seeing them happy and satisfied with what my father, mother, and I were able to provide will bring me the greatest joy. The price is not important. It's not about the price tag, it is about what you are willing to sacrifice for the one you love.

Also, I am so blessed and grateful to have four wonderful aunts who have lose palms willing to give presents to less fortunate kids in the streets. I saw how they are so loving and compassionate of giving. No wonder why they are so blessed. Every Christmas, my family would not just solo all the feasts at the table ,rather, they will call our neighbours, especially the children to have dinner with us and enjoy the food together.

Finally, Christmas wouldn't be the same without exchanging warm wishes with everyone you encounter in person and messaging those closest to you on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Twitter, and Instangram, imessage. Above all else, one of the things I do around Christmas is give thanks to the Creator for making my life tolerable and providing for me in all ways.

Yes, I was raised in a wealthy family. I don’t mean worldly things like presents, cash, or other possessions; rather, I consider myself wealthy because I had a kind and caring upbringing. I want everyone to understand that Christmas is a time for sharing, peace, and love—not about exchanging "expensive presents" with one another. #FamilyIsLove
